Toyota has announced that its Land Cruiser 300 model is now adopting a hybrid powertrain for the first time.
The new system combines a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine with a single motor-generator in a parallel hybrid arrangement. This gives the Land Cruiser more power (304bhp and 790Nm of torque, the most powerful Land Cruiser yet) and high-torque towing strength, in addition to maintaining its exceptional all-terrain capabilities without compromise.
The new system also features a new structure in which a motor-generator with a clutch is located between the engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Engine start-up, EV driving, electric assist, and energy regeneration are all handled by the hybrid system that, when paired with a new electric power steering, provides better precision and vehicle control on all types of roads.
The new Land Cruiser 300 will be introduced in three equipment grades, VX, ZX, and GR Sport, all with a five-seat interior layout. The VX model will come with features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED sequential head lights and LED front fog lights, and a power back door. Inside, the infotainment package includes a 12.3-inch digital driver's combimetre and a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen. The system provides route navigation and the on-board entertainment includes a powerful 14-speaker JBL premium audio system.
Extensive driving assistance systems equip the model for off-road journeys, including Toyota's Multi-Terrain Select which automatically adapts braking and drive force to suit different driving conditions. Crawl Control and a Multi-Terrain Monitor support safe progress over uneven ground, while Downhill Assist Control, a Blind Spot Monitor, parking sensors, and a Panoramic View Monitor support safe and easy on-road manoeuvring as well. The ZX version adopts an aero body kit, adding further emphasis to the Land Cruiser’s powerful appearance.
Other key features include Adaptive Variable Suspension, a five-mode drive selector, head-up display, hands-free kick sensor for the power back door, and a rear limited-slip differential.
The GR Sport variant introduces design details that draw inspiration from the multi-world-championship-winning Toyota Gazoo Racing teams. It is fitted with exclusive front and rear bumpers and wheel arches to create a more commanding look and the front grille carries the classic Toyota name badge. The 18-inch wheels have a bespoke off-road design and GR logo badging is featured both on the vehicle’s bodywork and in the cabin.
Off-road performance is enhanced with the addition of e-KDSS (electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) which automatically disengages the anti-roll bars to increase wheel travel and maintain tyre contact with the ground on very uneven terrain.
The new Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid will be introduced in selected eastern European markets from January 2026.
