Toyota has revealed the new GRMN Yaris at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022.
A yet more performance-oriented version of the GR Yaris, the GRMN Yaris is now strictly a two-seater, thanks to the replacement of the rear bench with a cross brace for increased vehicle rigidity.
Further aiding to the car's increased structural rigidity is an increase in the total number of spot welds. All 545 of them in fact, alongside the use of another 12m of structural adhesive. The addition is said to aid in the GRMN’s responsiveness to driver input.
The Toyota GRMN Yaris is also 20kg lighter than the GR Yaris, thanks to the use of lightweight, high-rigidity carbon fibre in the hood, roof and rear spoiler.
The engine under that hood meanwhile, is the same 1.6-litre three-cylinder unit as that used in the RZ 'High Performance' spec GR Yaris, with a peak output of 268bhp. Peak torque however, is now 390Nm, as opposed to 370Nm.
This engine is paired to a new and reinforced short-ratio gearbox, with six ratios of which you'll have to row through yourself. There's also a new mechanical limited-slip differential to put all that power onto the road through the bends.
Opt for the 'Circuit Package' and your car will come with Bilstein adjustable shock absorbers alongside a 10mm lowered ride height The Toyota GRMN Yaris is also being offered with two additional option packs. The first, a 'Rally Package' consists of parts including a GR shock absorber and short stabiliser link set alongside a GR under guard set and GR roll bar to enhance driving performance on all road surfaces.
The second, 'Circuit Package' meanwhile, will be limited to only 50 units, and offered only in a Matte Steel exterior paint finish. It comes with BBS GRMN dedicated 18-inch wheels, adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers, as well as a unique lip spoiler and side skirts, amongst others. The 'Circuit Package' will also drop the ride height of the GRMN Yaris by 10mm.
As with the GR Yaris, production of the GRMN Yaris will be carried out on a dedicated production line at Toyota's Motomachi Plant, and plans are for assembly to be carried out by takumi (master craftsperson) team members.
Only 500 examples of the Toyota GRMN will be made available for sale, all destined solely for Japan.
