The highlander measures 4,854mm long, sits 1,925mm wide and stands 1,730mm tall. Its revised design carries both refinement and strength that complements the new interior, which that Toyota presumes to be the benchmark for the mid-size SUV segment.
The front pillars are constructed from high strength steel for increased rigidity and the precise repositioning of the A-pillars provides an improved visibility. The size of the rear quarter glass has also increased for a wider view for the driver and occupants.
Aural discomfort in the cabin is reduced by 30 percent thanks to an expanded use of silencing insulation materials in the floor areas. Acoustic type glass used for the windshield also reduces noise entering the cabin as with the panoramic moonroof that reduces wind noise - even when the moonroof is open.
The new Highlander will offer a premium interior emphasising on increased space for up to eight people and an array of standard comfort, convenience and technology features. The cabin utilises premium materials for an upscale experience and most models feature contrast seat stitching as standard.
A soft-touch instrument panel is standard on all models while a silver-painted, satin, and chrome-plated accents that are thoughtfully placed throughout the interior. The presence of a high quality knit roof lining and second-row sunshades add to the Highlander's refinement and comfort.
Accessing the third row of seats is more convenient thanks to the one-step second-row sliding seat function that provides nearly three more inches of space.
Three powertrains are on offer for the new Highlander starting with - the 2.7-litre four-cylinder teamed with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
A 3.5-litre V6 mated to a new six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission (ECT) with selectable manual sequential shifting offers better acceleration and fuel efficiency, whereas the Hybrid Highlander pairs the 3.5-litre V6 with a high torque electric drive motor generator that returns enhanced mileage while emitting lesser pollutants.
All Highlanders are equipped with Toyota's Entune multimedia system featuring a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and voice recognition as standard, while an alternate eight-inch touchscreen system with Toyota's Entune app suite with 12 JBL speakers is also available.
