Train service restored on EWL

Train services have resumed on the East-West Line!
The LTA states that SMRT engineers and technicians have replaced the 10 rail segments last night, after they were found to also have developed cracks. These rail segments and their supporting power supply and signalling have also been subject to comprehensive functional and safety tests testing. These tests were further followed by endurance runs using passenger trains packed with sandbags.
For safety reasons, a temporary speed restriction of 40km/h is being imposed on westbound trains travelling on the repaired sections of the tracks. The LTA states that this restriction is a standard process following rail replacements and will be imposed until 3 October 2024. The authority advises commuters to add just five minutes of additional travel time to their commute in lieu of this restriction.
