Two pieces of Ferrari unobtanium are once again up for sale at Salon Prive, one of the world's most exclusive and prestigious car auctions. The two cars which will undoubtedly be stars of the show are the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 S 'Nart Spider' and a rare, Classiche accredited Ferrari 365 P.
The Ferrari 275 GTB/4 S 'Nart Spider' was declared as the 'most satisfying sports car in the world' by Road & Track magazine back in 1967. The car is one of two aluminium bodied cars, and was considered superior to the previous GTB thanks to double overhead cams per cylinder bank, dry sump lubrication and six instead of three Weber 40 DCN carburettors delivering fuel to its Colombo V12 engine. It also produced 300bhp of power.
Chinetti, then owner of the car, gave it the unofficial name 275 GTB/4 S NART Spider. NART stood for North American Racing Team, which was the team he ran. It was then pushed into service at the 12 Hours of Sebring race in 1967 where it finished second in class.
It also starred in the Steve McQueen movie, The Thomas Crown Affair. In fact, McQueen was so smitten by the Ferrari that he acquired it after filming had completed. The same car then sold for an astonishing $37.9 million, a testament to how sought after these NART Spiders have become.
The second star of the show, the Ferrari 365 P served as an official Ferrari works competition car, including race victories with Surtees and Bandini. The car was also instrumental in fending off Ford at Le Mans, giving them a beating after Ford had attempted to steal the title with their legendary Ford GT40.
An official Ferrari works competition car driven by some of the most legendary names in Ferrari's storied history More recently, the car had undergone a full restoration at the Ferrari factory back to its original Ecurie Francorchamps racing colours. It has also been awarded Ferrari Classiche certification confirming its matching numbers and gearbox. Therefore, the cars future owner can be rests assured of the car's originality.
With the undisputed pedigree of these two legendary Ferraris, it is not a question whether they will be sold, but rather how astronomical the figures of the winning prices will be at Salon Prive.
