Unique 100% recycled fabric for new Renault Zoe
18 Nov 2019|1,830 views
By combining traditional know-how with new co-developed innovations, a new, 100% recycled textile product - made from safety belts, textile scrap from the automotive industry and polyester fibres from the recycling of plastic bottles - now covers the interior of the Renault Zoe.
The new recycled material is the result of the Groupe Renault's deep commitment to increasing integration of recycled materials into its vehicles, and a pilot project called 'Afiler' (French for 'to thread'). Developed alongside Filatures du Parc, a spinning mill in the Tarn region of France, and Adient Fabrics, an automotive seat supplier in Ariege, France, the unique recycled textile covers a total area of 8m² in the Zoe, and is used for the seat covers, dashboard coverings, gear lever brackets and door fittings. It has been extensively tested to meet the high requirements for comfort, cleaning, UV resistance and durability.
The supply and manufacturing of this recycled carded yarn, which does not require chemical or thermal transformation, reduces associated CO2 emissions by more than 60% compared to the previous Zoe's fabric from a standard manufacturing process.
