Valkyrie to spearhead Aston Martin's quest for Le Mans glory

With the reveal of its new Valkyrie hypercar, Aston Martin is hoping the vehicle can propel the brand back to the pinnacle of endurance motor sport, and allow it to challenge for victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
As the only competitor derived from a road-legal hypercar, the Valkyrie is the first racing car built to the FIA's 'Hypercar' regulations that will contest both the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the U.S.-based IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship (IMSA). It will make its world competition debut when the Aston Martin THOR team enters two Valkyries in the opening round of the 2025 WEC on 28 February 2025.
For the full 2025 WEC season, Aston Martin will revive the #007 and #009 race numbers for both Valkyries, with Harry Tincknell and Tom Gamble piloting the former, and Marco Sorensen and Alex Riberas driving the latter. In the three-driver lineups at Le Mans, Ross Gunn will join fellow countrymen Tincknell and Gamble in the #007 Valkyrie, forming an all-British partnership for the race on 14 June 2025 to 15 June 2025.
The race-optimised carbon fibre chassis Valkyrie is powered by a modified Cosworth-built 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, which generates over 1,000bhp, with its power unit developed to withstand the rigours of top-level long-distance competition. With hypercar regulations pushing the power limit down to 500kW (680bhp), this proves advantageous for the Valkyrie's V12 engine, with a lower engine speed resulting in a jump in fuel efficiency.
The transformation from road to race car is dictated predominantly by the FIA's technical regulations in terms of both safety and performance. To meet the challenges of racing, developments include quick-change front and rear bodywork, a single-point rapid refuelling coupling, a high-speed pneumatic jack system incorporated into the chassis, and a driver cockpit optimised for safety, quick access, and visibility.
The racing suspension configuration features double wishbones front and rear, with pushrod actuated torsion bar springs with adjustable side and central dampers, and mandatory 18-inch Michelin Pilot Sport tyres (according to Hypercar regulations).
