Volvo Car U.S.A has opened the first public charging points for its fast-charging network, in collaboration with Starbucks.
The network now comprises of 50 Volvo Cars and Starbucks-branded fast chargers along 15 Starbucks locations along a 2,170km route between the Denver area and Seattle, allowing electric vehicle owners to charge up as easily as getting their caffeine top-up.
The chargers of the network are said to be able to add up to 170km of charge in as little as 15 minutes on the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge models. Drivers of the fully-electric Volvo models with Google embedded will be able to use the integrated ChargePoint app of both cars to find and access stations at participating Starbucks locations, while drivers of vehicles from other marques will be able to charge up with the ChargePoint smartphone app.
Just as Volvo Cars plans to be a fully electric car company by 2030 and climate neutral by 2040, Starbucks aspires to cut its carbon footprint in half by 2030 and lead the retail industry in decarbonisation solutions, including electric vehicle charging and onsite solar availability at stores and in adjacent locations.
