Volvo Ocean Race starts voyage this October

The Volvo Ocean Race has returned for its 12th edition, this time featuring seven boats which will visit 11 ports on five continents in its nine-month voyage.

The Volvo Ocean Race has returned for the 2014-15 season. The 12^th edition of the iconic race will feature seven boats which will embark on their voyage starting this October.

The new Volvo Ocean 65 features a host of innovations to make it go fast through water, yet protecting the crew from some of the toughest conditions in the world at the same time

The nine-month expedition will see them race a total of 38,739 nautical miles, passing through 11 ports on five continents before heading for the final stopover at Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2015. Situated on the west coast of Sweden, the city is largely referred to as the home town of Volvo.

This year, the race will also feature a new boat - the Volvo Design Ocean 65 racing yacht. Like other one-make racing series, the race will place the emphasis on the skill, strategy and teamwork of the crews.

Volvo Cars will also launch a series of special edition cars inspired by the race such as the V40, V40 Cross Country, V60 and XC60. In addition, Volvo Group will introduce two trucks, the FH13 and FH16, in special editions to commemorate the race.
