Volvo Singapore brings SUV extravaganza to Thomson Plaza

Car buyers have long known safety to be the core of Volvo's DNA - but over the decades, so too have electrification, minimalist luxury, and intuitive technology become definitive of the Swedish brand. 

Now, those visiting Thomson Plaza over the next week will have the chance to get up close with all of these qualities with the arrival of a four-car strong Volvo lineup in the mall atrium.

Volvo's lineup at Thomson Plaza this time ranges all the way from the Cat A-friendly EX30 to the facelifted seven-seater XC90

These span the likes of electric crossovers suitable for growing families, all the way to the facelifted seven-seater XC90. Alongside them, Volvo Singapore is even offering special deals and offers in celebration of the nation's 60^th birthday. 

Fronting the lineup this time is the newest and arguably most charming member of the Volvo family: The all-electric EX30. As part of Volvo Singapore's SG60 promotions, the electric crossover is now being sold at a limited-time special price (and with a low downpayment) that translates to an instalment figure of as low as $60 daily*.

Recently reintroduced with a Cat A-friendly powertrain, the EX30 still boasts plenty of performance for city driving, with its single motor putting out 110kW and an impressive 343Nm of torque. That's good enough to send it from 0-100km/h in just 8.6 seconds. 

Perhaps more important for Singaporean drivers, however, is the EX30's ability to go the distance.

The EX30 Ultra has a rated range of 475km, and supports DC charging at 150kW for a 10-80% recharge in 28 minutes

Opt for the long-range 'Ultra' variant present at the roadshow, and you'll be able to get up to a claimed 475km worth of driving range on a single charge, thanks to the car's 69kWh battery. Furthermore, recharging should be a fuss-free affair; said battery supports DC fast charging at up to 150kW, with which its state-of-charge go from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes.

Apart from power and range, however, the EX30 has lots to offer drivers within its pint-sized frame. Peer closer and you'll be able to see how Volvo has managed to achieve its smallest carbon footprint for any model thus far with this little crossover.

There are clever space-saving details, such as the placement of the rear window switches at the rear of the centre cubby, as well as a soundbar behind the dashboard in place of speakers in the doors.

Meanwhile, the recycled 'terrazzo-like' material that covers the dashboard is pleasing to the eyes and to the touch. 

The EX40 could well appeal to slightly larger families who still want a fully electric premium runabout 

On the other hand, those on the hunt for an electric runabout with a slightly larger footprint will be well-served by the EX40. 

The EX40's roomier second row and 410-litre boot make it perfect for larger families, even as it continues to serve up a generous range of standard features, including a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and full suite of advanced driver's assistance systems. Powered by a 70kWh battery, this electric SUV boasts an also-impressive range of up to 479km on a full charge, and offers more power than the EX30 too.

Still, even if you're not ready to make the electric switch fully, Volvo's modern SUV lineup has you covered.

Also making a stand at Thomson Plaza is the facelifted XC60, which comes in both the B5 mild hybrid and T8 plug-in hybrid variants.

Regardless of whichever variant a driver opts for, they'll get to enjoy the XC60's updated styling (in the form of a sleeker grille) and upgraded Android-based infotainment system.

For the best blend of performance and versatility, though, you'll want to go for the the plug-in hybrid T8 variant, which doesn't just offer an electric-only range of over 60km for days you want to drive emissions-free, but also boasts a whopping total power output of 449bhp and 709Nm of torque. 

Capping off the Volvo SUV extravaganza this time is the facelifted XC90.

Long established as one of the stalwarts of the seven-seater SUV segment, the updated XC90 carries the same styling and infotainment upgrades as the XC60 for a more modern driving experience.

Its original strengths, however, remain unchanged: It's perfect for multi-generational families thanks to its third row of seats, boasts class-leading safety credentials, and also offers a quietly-sumptuous interior. Power isn's lacking either, with its mild hybrid 2.0-litre turbocharged engine putting out a healthy 249bhp and 360Nm of torque. 

Seven-seat functionality - or a cavernous space with all the seats folded flat - awaits in the XC90

If you're keen on getting a new ride for the whole family, you're in luck. Volvo Singapore is now putting management units of the updated XC90 up for sale, with prices starting from $365,000 (inclusive of COE)*. 

But drivers who ultimately prefer something other than a crossover or SUV need not fret too. Though not physically present alongside its higher-riding siblings, management units of the Volvo V60 are also being sold at a special price for the period, starting from $249,999 (inclusive of COE)*.
