YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley explained the decision, "It was a mix of technology, design and sport and for me personally it was a perfect blend of my personal interests."
"Getting in on the ground floor of a project of this size and scope is a tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to helping shape the US F1 vision and corporate strategy for years to come," said Hurley.
"That's what initially raised my interest in this opportunity with Ken and Peter and US F1. Really, beyond that, coming from my perspective as an entrepreneur, I thought it was a great business opportunity and a good investment."
Hurley has also been in discussions with F1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone, which he describes as "productive". He notes, "I see tremendous potential for all sports to integrate more media, more social connections, connect with the fans and build a fan base and that's exactly what I hope to bring to USF1 - bringing my experience and perhaps my opinions of how we could go about that; obviously video is something I am deeply involved with today and that is going to be a big part of what we do at USF1."
Team principal Anderson and sporting director Windsor had positive words about the deal. Said Anderson, "Bringing in a businessman with his level of credentials, and experience in developing and fostering a vision for start-up companies, is an honour, and we look forward to taking on the formula one challenge together in 2010 and beyond."
Windsor adds, "Chad's commitment to this team is vital and his visionary expertise and leadership will help steer us into the future as we look to attract best-in-class sponsors, drivers, employees and fans in our quest to compete at the highest level of motor sports."
