The CLA Shooting Brake is, without a doubt, a very pretty car. Right up to the A-pillars, the car shares the same dynamic avant garde styling as its four-door sibling, the CLA Coupe. This includes the trademark CLA diamond radiator grille, framed by muscular V-shaped 'power lines' on the bonnet, large air vents on the bumper and HID head lights framed by LED 'eyebrows'. That said, it's its stylish long roof that rises from the A-pillars all the way to the rear before tapering down to meet the rear bumper that makes this car stand out.

  • Had a go in the CLA200 recently, and i would say the car is very tantalising. Its such a beautiful looking car, no two ways about it. All those curves, it looks like something constantly in motion. Interior is also top quality, spacious and comfortable, with lots of equipment and fine touches. Also lots of room in the back and the boot, which is very useful.
Driving the car, it can be a little underwhelming if you expect real sporty performance. However, driving the car sensibly and somewhat efficiently, its actually not too bad. The drive is relaxing and quite effortless, actually.

  • Test drove the CLA200 ShootingBrake recently. Overall the experience at the Merc dealership was good. The sales consultant was attentive and could answer all my questions .... Even my technical questions. Its a nice car but a little underpowered. Think the CLA250 would be a better choice for the power the engine delivers.

» VERDICT

In our eyes, the CLA-Class Shooting Brake is one of Mercedes-Benz's finest work and offers more space for passengers and distinctly more real estate in the boot. On song with the trend in sleeker profiles in cars, the Shooting Brake marries the stylishness of a coupe with the utility of a stationwagon.

What makes the Shooting Brake stand out though, is its stylish long roof that rises from the A-pillars all the way to the rear before tapering down to meet the rear bumper. This results in a sleek muscular appearance that's very unique for a car in this segment.

The Shooting Brake may also look bigger, but save for rear passengers getting 40mm of extra headroom because of the taller roof, the 4,630mm x 1,777mm x 1,435mm (L x W x H) dimensions do not differ from the Coupe's.

The exterior's progressive, sporty appearance is continued inside the vehicle. The layout of the centre console is neat with turbine-shaped air-conditioning vents and generous strips of brushed aluminium strips across the dash for that luxurious touch. The material is of a better quality, and there are the little accents that add a touch of class. Similarly, the little touches like badging, subtle features like ambient lights creates a sense of extravagance that sealed the deal for us.
