COTY 2015

The Toyota Corolla Altis isn't a car you dream about having. It's the sort of car you buy with your head and not your heart. While that may sound as bland and boring as drinking a non-alcoholic beer, the Altis aces in more ways than one in real world driving. And while it has undergone a series of design changes for the past 10 generations, it's only with this latest iteration that Toyota can proudly claim it to be a barking revolution rather than evolution.

  • I have owned this altis for 2 years plus and clocked mileage for 50K. I would say this is a good vehicle that never brought any issue to me at the moment.
Besides that, i have been travelled to NS highway at speed of 170km/hr and still very stable. I would say it is a good handling and good engine performance vehicle. Moreover, the vehicle is able to catch up at high speed within short period of time with just 1.6 litre engine.
FC is considered good as well. With full tank of petrol it can last for 520km (city 70% Highway 30%) 650km (NS highway)

  • Receive my car in Apr 2019 and has travelled 11k km, i must say this car was able to met my daily needs of ferrying passenger or items.
With the rear seat down, i was able to fit in a cabinet height of 1.5meter easily into the boot. During my daily commute from the west to east, the car provide linear power across the range and it has sufficient power to do overtake on the highway.
Doing my higher speed run in the North country, it is stable at 150km/h - 160km/h, it does give the confidence when travelling at that speed and the engine does not show sign of strain at that speed.
The rear passenger space was one of the best among it class. It does not have a hump across the middle seat that most cars have which allow passenger to easily seat in the middle. Even with 2 child seat in the rear seat, it was still able to fit in and average size adult for short commute.
The air con was also one of the best in class, even without the rear aircon vent. It was able to cool down the car quickly and the airflow was strong enough to blow the air into the back seat, stratifying my kids request. On a normal day, i only turn on 1 bar of airflow.
My servicing experience with Toyota has been positive. Was able to arrange last min appointment and the operator will try their best to accommodate my request even with a few days notice. They also provide car cleaning service after the service, which was a plus but at time the car was still having some stain leftover by the technical crew.
However for the fuel consumption, it is on the higher side. At 60% Highway i was only able to clock 10-11km/l for a 1.6L car whereas on paper it state 16km combine. I think this is quite far from my expectation.
overall the experience of owning Altis was positive and the made and finish material are on the higher side as compared to the competitor. For point A to B car, from my opinion this is 1 of the best car to own with high rating for their reliability.

  • For decades, the Altis has been constantly improving in the reliability, technology and comfort. When driving, we can literally see at least 1 Altis at every Junction that we go. This is how common this car had become. This car has been a household name to many since the 2004s when the Altis first touched down on Singapore's Shores. So for today, let us just talk about the features of the Car and leave Performance out of the picture sice many of you would be interested in the Features rather than engine performance.

  • Look much nicer than the previous version, a little bit more executive looking.
I drove it for 30000km before writing this review. Overall, the car can be summarized in 1 word - OK. Everything is good but not fantastic, slightly overprice for a made in thailand car.

  • As it's reputation, my first Toyota have everything ergonomically just right in place when you step in. I just felt very familiar with everything, although this is the first time I own a Toyota. A very comfortable space to be in. Significantly less stressful and tiring traveling long distance.

  • My 2nd Altis, as my 1st altis was still a good drive at 13 years and 300k mileage later.
Impulse buy as stupidly thought GST will be implemented in April but no regrets as the Altis Facelift Elegance is still a good drive.

  • Trust Toyota!
    Comfortable. Spacious for 4pax.
If 3 at the back, it's ok but not for long rides.
    Super cool aircon.
Very easy to drive with nice features.

  • I am reviewing this after driving the Altis Elegance 2016 for 10 months.
Initially, this car was not in my to buy consideration list as it was more than 100k previously. When I went down to the showroom during Jan 2016, there was the Motor Show promotion, with all the freebies thrown in and the 100k price tag, which made me considered this car again.
I had a test drive on the car, and found the interior sound proofing decent. Sound system is generally ok. Ample space for passengers behind, and also the arch for the behind middle passenger is quite low. Interior and exterior of the car was also nicely designed. Only complaint is the lack of features compared to other cars with the same price tag, such as Cruise Control or Dual Aircon System and Aircon Vent for behind passengers.
Eventually, based on the good promotion from the Motor Show, I bought this car.
Experience after driving for 10 months on the car:
Generally no issue with the car driving and stability.
Fuel Consumption for me is on average about 13.5 km/l. (I am quite light footed) Unable to hit the 15.4km/l that the specs stated.
Aircon is quite cold even at setting 28 degC and 1 bar fan.
Overall, I find Altis a good decent Bread & Butter Car.

» VERDICT

Now in its 11th generation, the Toyota Altis is a sedan that needs no introduction. While it has undergone a series of design changes for the past 10 generations, it's only with this latest iteration that Toyota can proudly claim it to be a revolution.

Although the Altis is no longer as instantly recognisable as it used to be, it is easily one of the sleekest in its class. It has proudly shed its boring family image that will see it attracting the younger and trendier audience.

Quality of the Altis' interior build and quality have also been tweaked to give the interior a classier and more comfortable finish while balancing modernity and comfort. Other than the fact that the Altis has higher quality leather and plastics, the instrument panel is also prettier and more futuristic now, thanks to a radiant blue illumination.

Along with sufficient headroom for occupants, buyers will also appreciate its increase in wheelbase length and the flat floor bed in the middle rear seat - translating into a more generous legroom for rear passengers.

Just as before, claiming that the Altis is a very comfortable car to pilot would be an understatement. At speed, the car delivers poise and precision unfailingly, which is a pleasant surprise. With 121bhp and 154Nm of torque from its 1.6-litre engine paired to a new Super Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence (CVT-i) - the Altis manages to serve up a decent ride - with the cosseting serenity little cars have in this segment.
