Drove my brother's car down today 18 Sep 2025 at about 1.20pm for check (Mercedes E250) and repair cost for transmission issues after being referred by my brother's friend! The owner Francis Chia, said that his staff will check and then he drove off. Meanwhile his staff took his lunch leisurely and then proceeded to check for error codes using a laptop. Assuming that he was waiting for his Boss (Francis) to return so that he can advise me on the issues. After Francis returned at about 3 to 3.30pm, he was reluctant to advise me saying that he needs to know what were previously being repaired. I told him that my brother can call him on this and that I need to go for my other appointment. He then told me that he need to test drive the car to assess. So I followed him for 2 test drive around the area. During the 2nd test drive he mentioned something about diagnostic fees which I did not reply because I did not understand what he meant. After returning from the 2nd test drive, he seems reluctant to tell me anything and went about parking his other Mercedes parked opposite his workshop. Not wanting to wait any longer, I told him that I need to go off and that my brother can call him to understand on the issues and repair cost. I proceeded to enter the car and ignited the transmission when Francis came over and reached out inside the car and took out the car key saying that I must pay $150.00 for diagnostic fees. I refused and called the police for assistance. With the assistance of the police, I managed to get back the car keys and left the place at about 6pm!
If there is any diagnostic fees to be paid, I should be informed first and only upon my agreement, there is a verbal contract and I will honor it. Not by holding onto customer's car key to demand for payment! Ridiculous! 5 hours wasted! Imagine a car workshop owner resorting to such low and dirty tactics trying to make $150.00?
