Volvo has launched the new, electric-only C40 Recharge coupe crossover.

The C40 Recharge is Volvo's first car to only be available with electric drivetrains, embracing its latest commitment to a zero-emission future.

The C40 Recharge will also only be available through online purchase. This new sales model puts the car in line with Volvo's goal of reducing complexity in its model offering in order to bring focus on attractive pre-selected variants. This is being done in order to hasten deliveries of cars to customers.

But customers can expect a lot more than just a wholesale online shopping experience. Customers of the new car will also get their C40 Recharge 'no-stings attached', thanks to Volvos new convenient care package.

The new package will mean that each Volvo C40 Recharge will come with servicing, warranties, roadside assistance, as well as insurance and home charging options already pre-included, delivering a truly carefree ownership experience.

Like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge will also come with one of the best infotainment systems on the market, jointly developed with Google and based on the Android operating system. It will provide consumers with Google apps and services built-in such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store.

Adding on to the 'no-strings attached' sales concept, this infotainment system will also come with unlimited data. This will enable superior connectivity and the allow the car to receive software updates seamlessly over-the-air. That also means it will continue to improve over time, even after it has left the factory.

Also new is the coupe crossover body shape of the C40 Recharge, said to offer all the benefits of an SUV but with a lower and sleeker design.

The rear of the C40 Recharge features a striking rear-end design to go with the lower roof line, while the new front design introduces a new face for electric Volvos and includes head lights with state-of-the-art pixel-technology.

Going back to the cabin, the C40 Recharge will not only be the first Volvo to be completely leather-free, but will also be offered with a range of colour and deco options unique to the model.

Propulsion for the C40 Recharge comes from twin electric motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle, powered by a 78kWh battery that can be fast-charged to 80% in about 40 minutes. Anticipated range for the crossover is expected to lie around 420km based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure, although this figure is expected to improve over time via over-the-air software updates.

Following the introduction of the XC40 Recharge and now the C40 Recharge, Volvo Cars will roll out several additional electric models in coming years.

The firm is aiming for 50% of its global sales volume to consist of fully electric cars, with the rest hybrids. By 2030, it plans for every car it sells to be pure electric.

The C40 Recharge will go to production by the third quarter of 2021, and will be built alongside the XC40 Recharge at the Volvo Cars manufacturing plant in Ghent, Belgium.
