The Audi Environmental Foundation installs new litter trap in the River Danube

The Audi Environmental Foundation has installed a new floating litter trap in an effort to clean up the River Danube in Hungary.

The litter trap is not only made out of recycled plastic, but will also capture discarded litter in the river, of which, the plastics will also be sent for recycling.

In contrast to conventional nets and vacuum systems, the trap is further distinguished by its intelligent strutting of partition panels. This ensures that fish and other river dwellers do not get caught in the catch basin but can dive beneath it, allowing the litter trap to minimise it interference with the river as a habitat.

The Audi Environmental Foundation has been working with Dutch non-profit organisation Clear River since 2018 to develop innovative solutions to plastic pollution in open waters worldwide as well as to raise awareness for the environmental damage caused by waste that is carelessly discarded.
