Aston Martin considering to produce a road legal variant of the Vantage GT3

Road legal track cars seem to be gaining in popularity in recent times. Ferrari has the 458 Italia Speciale, Lamborghini the Squadra Corse, Porsche the 911 GT3 RS and then there are minimalist cars like Caterham 7 and Ariel Atom. Aston Martin, too, had the N400 - which celebrated the firm's success at the Nurburgring back in 2007.

Apparently, there might be a follow up model. According to reports from U.K. publications, the luxury British firm has plans to make an extreme GT3 car that is based on the already vicious V12 Vantage S.
In stock guise, the Vantage S is the fastest road going Aston Martin yet - besides the halo One-77 supercar. The Javelin missile is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 powerplant with 565bhp and 620Nm of torque on tap, capable of propelling the car to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 330km/h.
"It would be relatively easy to lose 100kg from the current car. That much could be saved by removing the air conditioning, simplifying the interior and fitting lightweight seats," said Engineering Boss, Ian Minards.
The inspiration for the Vantage S GT3 is from the lightweight, high-downforce car based on the automakers experience in the SP8 category of the Nurburgring 24 Hours race. The project is about to get green light within the next six months, and should it be possible, the finished car will be expected to make its debut before 2015.

The N400's 4.3-litre V8 was tuned to produce 400bhp while the car also featured a sports pack which included lightweight wheels, uprated springs and dampers along with a new rear anti-roll bar.
