Earlier this week, we heard that Mercedes-Benz will be introducing its nine-speed automatic transmission in Europe. Now, according to reports, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class will be the first model in the U.S. to get the new nine-speed automatic transmission.
The nine-speed CLS will go on sale in the US next fall before eventually spreading to almost all other Mercedes models, but there is no word as to when this would occur. The current CLS uses a seven-speed automatic, and the 9G-Tronic's extra gears will help improve fuel economy.
Daimler introduced the new transmission in Europe in the Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec diesel sedan. The company said the new transmission is suitable for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid drive systems and "will be used in almost all model series and engines in the coming years".
