A 250 GTO, Ferrari's most legendary car will be offered for auction at Concours of Elegance

It's not every day when the creme de la creme of Ferrari's back catalogue, the hallowed Ferrari 250 GTO comes up for sale. The Concours of Elegance has announced that it will be offering an example of the car, which many consider to be the ultimate automobile.
With just 36 ever built, the 250 GTO is a striking and curvaceous car, a thoroughbred honed at numerous races in the past. It also has status as being one of the most coveted car amongst collectors. The 250 GTO was an evolution of the 250 GT SWB, with upgrade works carried out by the talented young engineer Giotto Bizzarrini. The body was reworked by Scaglietti, being shaped by wind tunnel testing to mould the iconic GTO shape.
Under the long, muscular bonnet of the 250 GTO lays a single cam 3.0-litre version of Ferrari's Colombo V12, lifted from the Testa Rossa race car. The motor produces 300bhp at 100bhp per litre, a feat of engineering back in 1962. Being a Ferrari, a mechanical, epic V12 howl comes as standard.
The gearbox is a five speed manual with a long aluminium gear lever rising dramatically from the iconic open-gate, sitting close to the wooden rimmed steering wheel. The gearbox is ideally placed for quick shifts in the heat of an on-track battle. The GTO is also wonderfully light when compared to its competitors, at circa 1,000kg, and could hit zero to 100km/h in under six seconds.
This exemplary performance figures was coupled with great reliability and mechanical resilience, making the 250 GTO a hugely capable racing machine.
