Aston Martin reveals new DB12 Volante

Aston Martin has revealed a new DB12 Volante, just months after the DB12 Coupe was first revealed.
Up top, the Aston Martin DB12 Volante makes use of an electrically operated 'K-fold' fabric roof, named after its two-stage folding procedure. This roof has been engineered to deliver a short 260mm stack height, maximising luggage space while ensuring the body curves of the car are not compromised.
The roof will thus maintain the DB12's profile when raised and create an elegant tail beneath a hard tonneau cover when folded. It also makes use of a total of eight layers of insulation, which have been acoustically enhanced for improved cabin comfort.
A total of 14 seconds is all that is needed to open this roof, and 16 seconds to close it, both possible at speeds of up to 50km/h, with a 50km/h headwind. Aston Martin is offering a total of four exterior colours for the hood, with Black as standard, and Red, Blue, and 'Black and Silver' available as options.
Aston Martin states that the rigid bonded aluminium structure of the car was conceived and engineered to support the same driving experience in the DB12 Volante as in the DB12 Coupe. However, the convertible still receives upgraded rear suspension mounting points as well as an engine cross brace to boost the torsional stiffness of the DB12 Volante by 5%.
The car continues to be powered by the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that animates the DB12 Coupe. This engine delivers a total of 671bhp and 800Nm of torque, allowing the Volante to reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds (0.2 seconds slower than the DB12 Coupe).
The Aston Martin DB12 Volante also continues to feature a fully integrated twin 10.25-inch screen system developed in-house by Aston Martin in its cabin, alongside a 390W 11-speaker audio system. A 15-speaker, double amplified 1,170W surround sound system is also available for the DB12 Volante thanks to the newly announced collaboration with Bowers and Wilkins.
