Alongside the DBX707 Official FIA Medical Car, Aston Martin has announced that it will also be supplying a Vantage to be the Official FIA Safety Car for the 2024 Formula One season.
The new Vantage was released alongside its 'Brothers in Speed' three weeks ago. The new Vantage, which Aston Martin says is the most driver-focused ever, will be leading the Formula One cars on the formation lap during the Formula One STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2024. The car is designed to be able to intervene and control the pace of the race.
The Vantage Safety Car is powered by a hand-built 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, giving it a 30% increase in power over the previous model. The Vantage Safety Car is also similar to the road-going Vantage with no upgrades to the engine, cooling system and braking performance.
Adapting to its role as a safety car, however, the Vantage does sport some modifications. It contains a modified underfloor for aerodynamics, alongside an extended and profiled front splitter. A new rear wing has also been added, giving the car extra downforce. The car also contains rapidly cooling tyres, while the FIA lightbar has received a new aero-profiling upgrade.
Internally, the Vantage Safety Car consists of systems assisting the driver and passenger in their roles. The seats have also been replaces by Pole Position seats, ensuring the driver and passenger stay firmly in place at speed. The centre console is fitted with switch gear which will work hand-in-hand with the FIA's systems.
Despite being a safety car, the Vantage stays true to its Aston Martin roots. The safety car comes in Aston Martin Racing Green while its interior is fitted with in Lime Essence trim, a nod to the marque's own racing colours.
