The V12 Vantage GT3’s body is constructed out of aluminium and composites, which helps improve rigidity and reduce weight. Its all-new aerodynamics package, along with the shorter wheelbase and the lower engine position, offer improved handling compared to the DBRS9. Drivability is also said to be enhanced thanks to the race-developed ABS and traction control systems.
The Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 is eligible to race in GT3 class series competitions, including the FIA GT3 championship. Aston Martin will begin development of the car in October, which will include a rigorous 10,000 testing program in order to hone the car for the 2012 season. The first customer cars are expected to be delivered by 2012.
The V12 Vantage GT3 replaces the DBRS9 GT3 race car, and uses a modified version of the V12 Vantage road car’s 6.0-litre V12 engine, which has been repositioned in order to optimize weight balance. The unit churns out 600bhp and 700Nm of torque, which are sent to the rear wheels via an Xtrac 6-speed sequential gearbox.
