Audi R8 GT Spyder launched

The V10 unit has been upgraded with a modified ECU from the one on the standard R8 Spyder, and now produces 560bhp and 540Nm of torque, up from 525bhp and 530Nm on the standard car. An R-tronic sequential manual transmission and Audi’s Auattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a rear-wheel bias completes the setup.
The R8 GT Spyder’s suspension has been tuned with aluminium double wishbones, and also comes with a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/35 tyres up front and 295/30 tyres at the rear. The car also features large, lightweight carbon-fibre ceramic brake discs and an Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) that can be deactivated entirely.
Audi has managed to shed 85kg from the standard R8 V10 Spyder, through the use of carbon fibre parts for certain parts of the body, which contributed 5.5kg of weight loss, as well as lighter components in the powertrain and interior. The majority of the weight removed comes from the new bucket seats however, which are 31.5kg lighter than the seats on the standard R8 V10 Spyder.
The uprated performance as well as the reduction in weight enables the R8 GT Spyder to rocket from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the R8 V10 Spyder’s 4.1 seconds, and reach a top speed of 317km/h.
Cosmetically, the R8 GT Spyder features additional contrasting titanium grey trim elements, a front splitter with a dual lip, flics at the sides of the front bumper, red GT badges, round exhaust tailpipes, an enlarged diffuser and dark LED tail lights in a clear-glass design. Audi also offers an optional windscreen frame in matte CFRP.
The interior is upholstered in black and can be trimmed in a choice of titanium grey or crimson red with Alcantara upholstery coming as standard and leather as optional. Like the R8 GT Coupe, the R8 GT Spyder is limited to just 333 units worldwide, and the first units are expected to be delivered early next year.

Only 333 units of the R8 GT Coupe was produced when it was launched last year, and Audi has followed that up by introducing the R8 GT Spyder, which features the same 5.2-litre V10 engine and lightened body as the R8 GT Coupe.
