Audi to introduce new 1.2-litre TFSI engine to A3 Cabriolet range

The 1.2-litre TFSI engine features both turbocharging and supercharging technology, and is the smallest petrol engine that Audi currently offers. The unit is able to produce 105bhp, the same as the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine it replaces, and 175Nm of torque, an increase of 27Nm.

Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the A3 Cabriolet 1.2 TFSI is able to go from 0-100km/h in 12.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 190km/h. In comparison, the previous A3 Cabriolet 1.6 returns a 0-100km/h figure of 12.5 seconds, and a top speed of 183km/h.

Despite the increase in performance, the 1.2-litre TFSI engine boasts of improved fuel economy over the previous 1.6-litre unit, with the smaller engine now returning a fuel consumption figure of 5.7 litres per 100km.
