BMW is refreshing the 4 Series Coupe and Convertible

Those twin kidney grilles have remained - but the current generation 4 Series Coupe and Convertible twins are getting refreshed outside and in as they approach their fourth year of being in production.
While falling in line with the firm's strengthening push on both the technology and sustainability fronts, the updates are also centred on bringing the nameplate up to date with the rest of the family.
Most immediately noticeable are the redesigned headlights, which haven't just been visually, but also functionally upgraded.
If you like the new 'eyes' found on the updated X5 and X6, you're likely to appreciate those on the 4 Series too; they follow in the same vein of trading the bracket-like clusters of old for chevron-shaped structures now. BMW says that both the new car's low and high beams are generated from a single LED module. Adaptive LED Headlights are optional.
Things have also gotten slightly fancier at the rear, where Laserlight-powered rear lights can now be specced on the cars. These feature laser diodes that individually illuminate a fibre optic bundle, for a more intricate light graphic. If you remember, this technology was first seen on the limited-run BMW M4 CSL, but its extension now to the 4 Series twin will mark the first time it's debuting in a volume-produced car.
Other exterior highlights include two new paint finishes from the factory - Cape York Green metallic and Fire Red metallic, while both the Coupe and Convertible will be offered for the first time with three new 19-inch light-alloy wheel variants. Here's an extra goodie: Those who opt for the M Sport package might notice the twin exhaust tailpipes integrated into the rear apron being bigger (they've grown from 90mm to 100mm in diameter).
The 4 Series Coupe and Convertible have also gotten upgraded interiors to bring them up to date with the rest of their siblings.
Notably, the cars are the latest to get BMW's Curved Display, which houses the infotainment touchscreen and digital driver's display within a single, uninterrupted panel.
Given the timing of its (re)introduction, the Curved Display runs BMW OS 8.5 out-of-the-box (earlier models with the Curved Display ran OS 8), which improves on OS 8 with a 'zero-layer' user interface that aims to improve operational ease and intuitiveness when on the move. In tandem, a newly-designed steering wheel has also been added to the cabin.
Finally, for the first time in the brand's history, the sports seats for the 4 Series Coupe can be trimmed in M Performtex (when opted with the M Sport package, or in M Performance form). BMW says the lightweight material - described to be velour-like - doesn't just boast a sporty design, but perhaps more importantly, is made with a sustainability-optimised production method that generates lower carbon emissions.
Additional highlights on the inside include a revised selection of interior trim strips, and ambient lighting offered as standard equipment. The latter now includes contour lighting integrated into the trim around the central seam vents.
As for performance, it appears that BMW hasn't tinkered with the models' range of powertrains this time round. Variants with a straight-six engine (specifically, the M440i, and the 430d) still get the assistance of some electric power by way of a mild hybrid system, while the 420i and 430i - both of which made it to Singapore previously - will be powered by the same turbocharged inline-four.
BMW says that the 4 Series Coupe and Convertible have been tremendously well-received since order books opened back in 2020, with the U.S.A remaining the strongest markets for both models.
The worldwide market launch of the refreshed twins will get underway in March this year, with production continuing at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.
