BYD has revealed a new Seal SUV equipped with plug-in hybrid technology at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show.
The car, named the BYD Seal U DM-i, measures in at 4,775mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,670mm high, making it shorter but wider and taller than the BYD Seal sedan.
Set to hit European markets, the BYD Seal U is offered in China equipped with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that combines a 106bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 194bhp electric motor. This motor gets its power from an 18.3kWh battery, which gives the SUV an electric-only range of 109km. This battery can be charged from 30% to an 80% in approximately 35 minutes, and allows the car to offer vehicle-to-load charging capability.
On the outside, the car continues to borrow from the brand's 'Ocean Aesthetics' design language that also defines the design of the BYD Seal sedan and the BYD Dolphin. The BYD Seal U thus sports an X-shaped front face, a contoured bonnet and a front bumper with integrated LED head lights, which BYD states, gives the car a strong sense of power and stability.
These features are paired with bi-colour 19-inch alloy wheels alongside continuous dot matrix 'water drop'-inspired LED taillights and a full-width flowing light bar at the rear.
Steup within the BYD Seal U and you'll find features including a crystal gear selector and a 15.6-inch rotatable full LCD touchscreen, all resting on the firm's 'Ocean-heart' centre console. Further back, a 60:40 folding rear bench is offered, allowing the car's 552-litre boot space to be expanded to a total of 1,440 litres.
BYD states that the Seal U will be available to European customers from the second quarter of 2024.
