Category A COEs, for cars of engine capacities of 1600cc and below, and taxis, went down by $2,495 to end the tender at $52,392. This marks the third straight drop in premiums for Category A.Category B COEs, for cars of engine capacities above 1600cc, went down by a bigger margin, declining by $4,990 to end the bidding at $72,350. This comes after a recent sustained period of price rises for the category.
COEs for the Category E Open segment went down as well in the latest exercise, decreasing by $1,549 to end the day at $74,340.
Category D COEs, for motorcycles, were the only ones who bucked the trend, going up by a mere $13 to $1,902.
The dip in prices indicate a pessimistic outlook for the car market ahead, with buyers staying cautious in view of a projected slowdown in the economy, as well as the expectation that the COE quota will be cut further in the near future, driving premiums up even more.
