CrossPolo all set to rock our shores
24 Aug 2012|7,938 views
We may already have the frugal and economical Polo 1.2 TSI; the exciting Polo GTI which proves good things still comes in small packages; and the Polo Sport for those who want a bit of the sporting essence without the big bite of the price tag. But Volkswagen reckons more could be done in the name of individualisation.
Hence over a gathering of the local media held in the cosy environment of the showroom, it showed us what was up their sleeves – the CrossPolo. Literally a Polo Sport on stilts, the CrossPolo gains the extra 15mm ground clearance and purposeful-looking bits to pose a more rugged stance. Well if looks constitute fully to a car's character – we say Volkswagen has nailed it.
The aesthetical changes pack more goodness than looks alone. The wheel arch extensions, for instance, are made of hardy plastic that protects the bodywork. The roof rails too are capable of carrying up to 75 kilograms of weights.
Under the hood is the renowned TSI engine, 1.2-litre producing 105bhp which will see to the century sprint despatched in a timely 9.9seconds – with the help of VW's DSG twin-clutch gearbox. Efficiency has always been the marque's key attributes, and that has not been overlooked in the CrossPolo. The car achieves a combined fuel economy of just 5.5L/100km. Under the new emission-based tax scheme which is set to roll out next year, the CrossPolo will also enjoy a healthy rebate with just 128g of CO2 emitted per kilometre.
The CrossPolo retails for S$126,300 inclusive of COE at press time.
