Cupra partners with Seaqual to create eco-friendly seats for the new Cupra Born
23 May 2021|1,096 views
Cupra will work with Seaqual Initiative to manufacture the Cupra Born's seats from upcycled materials found in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Cupra Born's bucket seats will be produced from a recycled polymer fabric called Seaqual Yarn. To produce this unique material, marine litter found around water bodies is collected by a clean-up programme and sorted into different categories.
The plastic is then cleaned, treated and recycled into yarn that is almost indistinguishable from virgin polyester.
Seaqual Initiative works with NGOs, fishermen, authorities and local communities to help clean up the seas and oceans. Cupra's joint project with Seaqual Initiative contributes toward the removal of detritus from vulnerable sources of water.
The Cupra Born, the brand's first all-electric car, will also be Cupra's first vehicle to boast a net carbon neutral production process. The new vehicle will be manufactured in Zwickau, Germany, and based on Volkswagen's Modular Electric Platform (MEB), where energy from renewable sources is used in the vehicle's supply chain.
