Fiat 500 Abarth to hit the U.S

The Fiat 500 and 500C compact city cars have already been on sale in the U.S., and now Fiat is getting ready to launch the hot 500 Abarth version at the Los Angeles Motor Show, which will open on November 18.

The Italian automaker said that the U.S. version of the 500 Abarth will sport a new 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but did not disclose any information on performance figures. The European specification 500 Abarth is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine producing 140bhp and 206Nm in standard guise, and 160bhp and 230Nm with the Essesse package.

Aside from the turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Abarth model gains a stiffer suspension, a more powerful braking system, twin tail pipes, unique alloy wheels and a comprehensive aero package that includes a bespoke front bumper, side skirts, a roof wing and a rear diffuser.
