Ford previews its future SUVs with the Vertrek concept

The Vertrek is a possible "sporty, sleek, fuel-efficient" replacement for the Ford's Escape and Kuga off-roaders, and features familiar Ford design features, such as the front end that looks similar to the Focus, and a silhouette similar to that of the C-Max MPV. Other styling details include carbon fibre accents, LED lighting, and big-sized wheels.

Inside, the Vertrek has the usual futuristic concept car touches, but among the practical features include the 828 litre capacity boot, which can be expanded to 1879 litres when the rear seats are folded down. The Vertrek is also loaded with technology, with features such as SYNC, active park assist, BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) and Intelligent Access with push-button start.

Under the bonnet, the Vertrek is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and comes with an engine stop/start system. Ford has not revealed details about the car's performance, but says that the Vertrek can also use Ford's 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine.
