Ford to roll out new smart charging feature
02 Jan 2024|202 views
Owners of Ford all-electric vehicles will now be able to keep their charging costs to a minimum effortlessly thanks to a new partnership between the firm and energy companies Tibber and Octopus Energy.
The new partnership will see Ford vehicles in the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway gaining access to a new Dynamic Charging feature which will allow the vehicles to communicate with the energy providers' intelligent supply networks. Owners of these vehicles will then be able to simply plug in their vehicle, input their desired state-of-charge and departure time using a smartphone app, and their vehicle will be automatically charged using renewable energy, while maximising cost savings.
The feature is set to be available from early 2024 for owners of the Ford Mustang Mach-E followed by the Ford Explorer when it arrives in Europe later in 2024.
Ford plans to offer ten electric vehicles in Europe by 2025 including the Explorer, Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, Puma, E-Transit, E-Transit Custom, E-Transit Courier, E-Tourneo Custom, E-Tourneo Courier, as well as an additional mid-size crossover that has yet to be revealed. The firm has also announced that it will shift its entire lineup of passenger and commercial vehicles in Europe to all-electric power by 2035.
