The 'hooligans' in the 44-second video, that was shot from a nearby bus stop, have been identified to be plain clothes officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) who were about to arrest a suspected drug trafficker.
According to a CNB spokesman The Straits Times spoke to, the incident took place at about 1:00pm on the 2nd of July on Bukit Batok West Avenue 2.
To evade arrest, the suspect had crashed his car through the gantry of a public carpark, but officers still managed to catch him after a brief pursuit. The video shows the group of officers surrounding the suspect in a vehicle in the middle, and trying to smash the car's windscreen amidst some shouting.
During the raid, around 200g of Crystal Methamphetamine or 'Ice' was seized from the male Singaporean's car, revealed the spokesman.
Naturally the clip went viral and has registered over 216,000 views since it was uploaded nearly a fortnight ago.
Although a few commented a stun gun was used by the officers, CNB clarified tasers were not used during the bust.
The video also shows at least two men climbing onto the bonnet and boot of the middle vehicle. The hooligan-esque action by the, now identified as officers, drew some criticism from netizens while others defended their actions and praised them for successfully catching the suspect.
The CNB spokesperson also revealed that in a separate raid of the suspect's hideout in a Bukit Batok condominium which followed, the CNB recovered 488 ecstasy tablets, about 160g of ketamine, 56 Erimin-5 tablets, a small amount of Ice and drug paraphernalia. Investigations are ongoing.
