Skoda has released a new video showcasing the updated Octavia RS, with Rally Driver Oliver Solberg behind the wheel.
Solberg usually pilots the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 when he competes in the FIA World Rally Championship, but Skoda offered the 22-year old Swede the chance to take the Octavia RS out for a test drive, and he is said to have been delighted with how the firm’s engineers have combined handling prowess and power together with practicality and comfort.
The four-cylinder turbocharged engine of the Skoda Octavia RS comes from the same EA888 as the engine of Solberg’s Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. He states, "The engine of the Skoda Octavia RS has a quick response and reacts immediately to throttle commands."
The latest Skoda Octavia RS also now comes with an electronically controlled differential to distribute torque between its front wheels, while its chassis now sits 15mm closer to the road, lowering the car's centre of gravity. Speaking of the decrease in ride height, the rally driver states, "This is crucial for better handling and responsiveness to steering, because when driving more dynamically, you need a car that goes exactly where you want it to go without unnecessary tilts."
