Hyundai has marked the production of its 100 millionth vehicle with a ceremony at its Ulsan Plant in Korea.
The milestone was reached 57 years following the company's foundation, a feat claimed to be one of the fastest in the automotive industry. As a token of appreciation for its customers, Hyundai delivered its 100 millionth and first vehicle, an Ioniq 5, directly to its customer during a special handover ceremony after rolling off the final inspection conveyor belt at the Ulsan Plant's shipping centre.
Hyundai's Ulsan Plant first begun operations in 1968 and holds significant historical importance as the birthplace of the development of the Korean automobile industry, being the site at which Korea's first mass-produced independent model, the Pony, was made all the way back in 1975. Hyundai is currently preparing the historic site with a dedicated electric vehicle facility.
Last year, Hyundai Motor built on this momentum by establishing the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Centre Singapore, a new concept of a smart urban mobility hub. The innovative manufacturing platforms and advanced technologies developed there, including artificial intelligence, robots, and smart factories, are set to be introduced to future production factories, such as Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, maximising production efficiency.
