Hyundai to advance accessible transportation with solutions

Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) has launched an innovative demonstration project aimed at enhancing mobility for passengers with accessibility needs. Over the next five months, the brand will showcase its technology-modified vehicles and advanced services to enhance convenience and accessibility for all users.
This initiative underscores HMC's commitment to fostering an inclusive society through innovative mobility solutions provided by R1, a specially modified vehicle based on the ST1 electrification business platform, that features an expandable and customisable hardware structure and software. It is also complemented by the Shucle app, which allows users to request vehicles on-demand, reducing wait times and providing arrival information accurately.
A key feature of this initiative is the introduction of a voucher system available to existing voucher taxi users, allowing them to ride up to twice a day free of charge. The system streamlines the process by issuing an electronic voucher directly though the Shucle app, which will be available for immediate use. This eliminates the previous need to contact a mobility support centre for authentication.
The improved design also allows for side-door boarding, enabling passengers with mobility support to travel comfortably alongside up to two companions. For passengers with vision or hearing loss, the vehicles are equipped with an interface and a tablet (installed in the rear seat) for seamless communication with the driver.
HMC has been conducting research and pilot projects to enhance mobility for those who have accessibility needs, including the Enable LA project in 2021. By building on the insights and data gathered from these initiatives, the brand will continue refining its mobility solutions and services for real-world implementation.
