A hydrogen-powered future here in Singapore has just got a new lease of life.
Hyundai Motor Company, just a week after opening its innovation centre here in Singapore, has now announced that it has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with logistics firm Poh Tiong Choon Logistics (PTC) to establish an ecosystem for hydrogen-based mobility in Singapore.
The memorandum will see Hyundai discovering business opportunities related to the hydrogen ecosystem in Singapore and establish a collaborative relationship with PTC. Both firms will also share their expertise, experience, and resources to develop and build a hydrogen ecosystem which will span from the fuel's production to its utilisation.
Hyundai has signed a separate Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Air Products Qudra, and the Saudi Public Transport Company to establish and develop an ecosystem for hydrogen-based mobility in Saudi Arabia. The firm also launched the Xcient fuel cell truck in 2020, which has been deployed in six countries around the world, and has already accumulated more than eight million kilometres so far.
Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced at the Singapore International Energy Week in October 2022 that Singapore is aiming to supply up to 50% of its power needs with hydrogen by 2050.
