IM Motors makes Singapore debut with IM5 and IM6 preview

The Singapore Motor Show is not known for being a pet-friendly event, but those who came round to the MG booth at Level 4 of the Suntec Convention Centre might have found themselves enthralled by an excitable little puppy, dancing within the tail lights of a car they had probably never seen before in their lives.
Alongside the wave of new Chinese EV brands at this year's Show, IM Motors has made its official debut in Singapore, landing with not just one, but two model previews: The IM5 sedan and the IM6 coupe-SUV (both are known respectively as the IM L6 and IM LS6 in China).
The duo's presence here gave visitors a brief teaser of what to expect before the proper launches actually happen later this year. Appointed dealer, Eurokars EV, estimates that the first deliveries will begin "in the second half of 2025".
On that note, IM Motors' steward in Singapore should already clue you in to the name it bears close relation to.
Positioned as the more premium sister of MG Motors, the brand was founded as a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group and Zhejiang Hi-Tech - and in fact, is introducing itself as 'IM Presented by MG' here. Eurokars Group has also confirmed that the brand's cars will be showcased in a "dedicated section" of the existing MG Showroom at 19 Leng Kee Road.
Since the IM5 and IM6 have not been homologated for sale here yet, pricing and specification details for the cars also remain unconfirmed at the moment - although Eurokars EV has already made sure to highlight a number of key features on the cars.
One technical highlight of the two cars is their four-wheel steering, which is meant to boost both the manoeuvrability and stability of the cars at lower and higher speeds respectively.
And on a more practical level, the 800V technology of the electric architecture will give them ultra-fast charging speeds. The cars' silicon carbide (SiC) battery packs are also said to deliver a superb range of more than 600km on a full charge.
Nonetheless, it's worth noting that apart from its upmarket positioning, the notion of intelligent technology is supposed to lie at the heart of the IM Motors brand. (Its name, after all, refers to 'Intelligence in Motion'.)
On this front, a 'Rainy Night Mode', when activated, promises to enhance safety in wet weather by offering drivers a heightened level of visibility and with its detection of potential hazards. If you ever find yourself wandering into an impossibly tight dead end in an old carpark, a 'One-Touch Traceback' function should also be handy: It allows the car to automatically reverse up to 50 metres of its previous driving path.
But the cooler features are the ones that haven't yet been confirmed - which visitors got to see on the preview cars at the Show. Both cabins, for starters, feature a steering yoke and a multitude of screens - spanning the entire width of the dashboard, and stretching down even towards the centre console. IM Motors’ global website refers to this as the brand’s 'Intelligent Cabin', which is powered jointly by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 and NVIDIA Orin X Chip for a more immersive travel experience.
While the level of tech for Singapore-bound cars remains to be seen, the display cars at the Motor Show provide a good glimpse of the tech-forward ethos propagated by the brand
And to return to that little puppy mentioned earlier, the IM5 sedan even sports customisable 'Interactive Signal Communication Taillights'. According to the brand, this works great for "proactive socialising, welcoming and send-offs", and allows you to "express yourself to the world in a new way, anytime, anywhere".
A final highlight to note is the sheer performance that the IM5 and IM6 can boast - provided that they are brought in with their most powerful variants. The all-wheel drive variant of the former is capable of a peak output of 579kW and 800Nm, which can send it from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.74 seconds. (Whether or not it eventually arrives, however, remains to be seen, considering the hefty road tax bill that would accompany such power.)
Speaking to Sgcarmart, Charmain Kwee, Group Executive Director of Eurokars Group, shared, "Staying true to our promise of delivering unparalleled experiences to our customers, Eurokars is excited to embark on this partnership with IM Motors in conjunction with MG to bring the future of electric mobility to Singapore."
Further noting that Eurokars Group will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025, she continued, "The addition of IM Motors to our portfolio is a powerful testament to our drive for innovation, coupled with a deep appreciation for elegance and seamless design. We remain committed to pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks in the automotive industry."
