Kia has announced that it will commence sales of its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) models in Japan come early 2026.
It states that the expansion into Japanese market is a key pillar of its PBV strategy, and that it intends to develop a range of vehicles designed to meet the specific needs of the Japanese market. It plans to launch its first PBV model, the PV5, in Japan by early 2026. This mid-size model will meet the scalability of various business streams in Japan.
This model will be followed by the PV7, which will also join a PBV ecosystem created through cooperation and partnerships with various local companies. Its PBV models will also come with advanced software solutions based on Hyundai Motor Group's software-defined everything, which will enable users to set product specifications according to their specific needs, so they will be able to determine vehicle factors including seating layout, luggage compartment shape, door options, and battery capacity.
Kia states that this flexibility will allow its PBVs to enable businesses to significantly improve cost-competitiveness and deliver greater value to customers while opening the door to new companies by redefining the concept of space thanks to advanced, tailored interiors that provide ultimate freedom and flexibility.
The firm is currently building a new state-of-the-art EVO Plant, located within the brand's Autoland facility in Hwaseong, Korea which is set to become its first PBV EV-dedicated manufacturing facility.
