Kia has unveiled full details of its all-new Tasman, the brand's first pickup truck.
Designed to push the boundaries of possibility for a pickup's capabilities, with the latest technology and first-rate space and convenience, the Tasman is set to redefine standards in the sector.
For its exterior, Kia decided to do away with the typical oversized styling of the pickup segment, and instead adopt simple and rugged elements to portray practicality. Its interior has also been similarly designed, prioritising purity and simplicity.
Based off a fully optimised body-on-frame platform, the Tasman will be offered in Korea with a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission offering 277bhp and 421Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 185km/h.
The Tasman will also be offered in Australia, albeit with a different engine: A 2.2-litre diesel engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission offering 207bhp and 441Nm of torque, allowing it to go 0-100km/h in 10.4 seconds. The top speed remains unchanged.
Other regions, like the Middle East and Africa, will be able choose between both options.
Central to the Tasman's appeal are its customisation options, with a range of accessories designed for enhanced leisure and work activities. It will be offered with three bed accessory configurations: Single Decker, Double Decker, Sports Bar and Ladder Rack. A fourth option will be available in the future.
Offered as a double cab base model in X-Line and X-Pro trim, the former has a higher ground clearance of 28mm (totalling 252mm) and 17-inch gloss-black wheels with all-terrain tyres, while the latter sports larger 18-inch alloy wheels with highway and terrain tyres.
Both the X-Line and X-Pro come with all-wheel-drive as standard (optionally available for the base model), which switches automatically to the configuration required to provide traction on different road surfaces.
The Tasman also sports practical features for those working in outdoor environments, such as an illuminated load bed, with optional features such as a power outlet and a sliding cargo floor for ease of loading and unloading items. With a load bed measuring 1,512mm long, 1,572mm wide, and 540mm deep, the Tasman also offers best-in-class cargo space of 1,173-litres.
The Kia Tasman will make its global debut at the Jeddah Motor Show and online simultaneously, and will launch in the Korean domestic market in the first half of 2025 before gracing the Australian, African, and Middle Eastern markets.
