Komoco Motors debuts the Hyundai Kona Hybrid and Kona Electric in Singapore

Komoco Motors, the official distributor for Hyundai in Singapore, has introduced the newly enhanced Hyundai Kona Hybrid and Hyundai Kona Electric. These new additions will expand Hyundai's existing SUV lineup here, which presently includes the Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Venue.

With a bold, progressive design, the Hyundai Kona has become an icon in the compact crossover segment. Design updates around the car give both variants a sleek, sophisticated look, while still retaining its distinctive styling.

The Kona Hybrid's striking new front end design stands out with eye-catching, protective cladding panels. A centre grille with a wide, distinctive shape gives the Kona a powerful look, which is enhanced by the razor-thin, elongated LED daytime running lights. On the Kona Electric, the front is complemented by a unique asymmetric charging port, which makes a strong statement about driving electric.

On the Kona Hybrid, the main bumper fascia connects to the wheel arch claddings, forming all-round 'armour' in contrasting material to the main body. Vertically-oriented aerodynamic inlets at the lower bumper's corners improve air flow around the car. The Kona Electric's lower bumper is visually enhanced by horizontal satin accent bars, which give it a pronounced stance.

At the rear, both models' new taillights feature horizontally stretched graphics, continuing the design language of the front. The rear bumper of the Kona Hybrid, which also follows the protective 'armour' concept of the front and sides incorporates a contrasting material.

The new Kona Hybrid comes with five new exterior colours, including Surfy Blue, Dive in Jeju, and Cyber Grey. Every colour can be combined with the Phantom Black two-tone roof, giving customers more options for personalisation and self-expression. The Kona Electric features all these new colours but is only available in single-tone.

The redesigned interior of the new Kona Hybrid and Kona Electric features elements that make it more upscale and progressive than its predecessor. The new console area is disconnected from the instrument panel, emphasising the horizontal layout. 

Other enhancements include new ambient light technology that illuminates the centre cup holders, and passenger and driver side footwells. On top of a new 10.25-inch digital cluster, the Kona Hybrid and Electric is equipped as standard with an 8.0-inch Display Audio infotainment system, as well as DAB radio. Wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play allows for convenient wireless connectivity of drivers' phones to the Display Audio system.

In terms of safety technology, both Kona variants are equipped with a range of active safety and driver assistance features under Hyundai's SmartSense, such as Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision Avoidance and Lane Keep Assist. Notable additions include Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, which alerts the driver if they do not react fast enough when the vehicle ahead of them starts moving, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, which applies the brakes if another vehicle is detected while reversing.

Occupants also benefit from the inclusion of the Safe Exit Warning feature, which prevents passengers from exiting the vehicle if it is not yet safe to do so, and Rear Seat Alert, which alerts the driver if someone or something is in the back seat as they prepare to exit the vehicle.

The new Kona Hybrid's powertrain lineup reaches new heights in terms of performance and sustainability. Its powertrain features a 1.6-litre GDI engine and a 43bhp electric motor with a combined output of 130bhp, paired with a six-speed dual clutch transmission. 

As for the Kona Electric, the long-range variant with a 64kWh battery features an electric motor that delivers a maximum power of 201bhp, while the basic variant has a battery capacity of 39.2kWh and a power output of 134bhp. The long-range battery version offers a class-leading range of 484km on a single charge.

The new Kona Hybrid features improved driving comfort as compared to its predecessor, without degrading the Kona's sporty character. Its springs, dampers, and stabiliser bars were modified for better ride comfort and isolation. Paired with Continental's Premium Contact 6 tyres, drivers can expect better fuel efficiency and lower emissions while enjoying a smoother ride.
