Lexus has unveiled 8 Minutes and 20 Seconds, an installation by Dutch solar Designer Marjan van Aubel at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami, U.S.A.
The solar sculpture imagines the Lexus LF-ZC concept car as an interactive experience, translating it into a true-to-size graphic pattern design thanks to the use of organic photovoltaics. Viewers of the installation are invited to move around and explore the installation from different angles. And as this movement is detected by sensors, the installation will spark light to bounce across and ripple like water its base, representing the car's electric vehicle platform. At unexpected intervals, the installation will also display a cascade of light alongside a crescending melody, mirroring the dynamics of the car in motion and offering a sensory glimpse into the energy of driving.
The display is said to harness solar power, drawing from the organic photovoltaic sheets that charge up a battery located within the sculpture's base.
8 Minutes and 20 Seconds will be available to view through to 17 December 2023, and marks Lexus' second year of partnership with at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami and its sixth immersive experience during Miami Art and Design Week.
