The M-Sport Ford World Rally Team has offered up the first look at the competition livery that will grace the new M‑Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally car competing in the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship.
The car will make its competitive debut at the Monte Carlo Rally come 20 January 2022. The M‑Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally sports a next-generation hybrid powertrain that captures energy during braking and coasting, and stores it in a 3.9kWh battery.
The energy is then used to supplement the championship-winning performance of the 375bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with repeated boosts of up to three seconds from a 100kW electric motor. Combined, the system is said to be able to offer more than 500bhp and 500Nm of torque in short boosts.
The car can also use its electrified powertrain to travel through towns, cities, service parks and chosen sections between stages using pure-electric power. The battery pack can be recharged using an external power source at the dedicated service points between stages, with a recharge taking approximately 25 minutes.
