LTA aims to try new queuing scheme at MRT stations

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is studying ways to improve the boarding and alighting process at MRT stations. This include a plan to adopt new queuing schemes for commuters while waiting for the train.

The LTA has made studies and comparisons with other cities. For instance, it realised that at Taipei Rapid Transit, passengers were encouraged to queue orderly along markings on platforms. Whereas locally, the lines only prompt commuters to stay clear of train doors.

LTA is also considering a scheme which will allow simultaneous boarding and alighting.

The authority has also spawned various new initiatives, such as student contests and short film projects to promote graciousness on public transport. Since 2000, LTA has been running graciousness programs, at times featuring celebrities, to influence better travelling etiquette among commuters.
