Rumours of the carmakers plans to take on the Porsche 911 has been just talk in the rumour mills, yet new reports emerging are suggesting that this may be coming to fruition. Fueled by the comments of Maserati CEO Harald J. Wester, the new model could revive the GranSport – a name last used on the ultimate iteration of the 4200 GT coupe that preceded the current GranTurismo. Only this time, it would be a mid-engined V8 supercar similar in approach to the Audi R8.
As such, the car would likely feature a carbon fiber or aluminum chassis as well as a 4.7-litre V8 engine which would be mated to a dual-clutch transmission.
If everything goes according to plan, Maserati would build 1500-2000 units annually.
Maserati has reportedly grand plans to increase their annual sales to 50,000 units and this plan looks like it is beginning to take shape.
