Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid debuts at 2025 Motor Show

Enthusiasts in the market for a high-performance executive saloon now have another contender to consider, now that the E53 Hybrid 4Matic+ is officially in town.
Beneath the bonnet is a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine that produces 443bhp and 560Nm of torque. Paired to a plug-in hybrid system, the car's combined output is 577bhp and 740Nm of torque, with the latter available from 2,200-5,000rpm.
Armed with these figures, the E53 crushes the century sprint in 4 seconds. However, should the need arise, the driver can also opt to travel on electric power alone. In ideal driving conditions and with the 21.2kWh battery fully charged, the E53 can cover up to 101km on electric power alone.
Mercedes-AMG claims that the car can average up to 111.1km/L or 0.9 litres per 100km, but that might be tough to achieve when the driver is sitting behind so much performance.
For enhanced handling, the E53 has features that include 4Matic+, Mercedes' all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution, AMG Ride Control suspension, and rear axle steering. The latter improves stability at high speeds while also helping reduce the car's turning circle at low speeds.
Stopping power comes courtesy of AMG composite brakes, with 370mm rotors in front with four-piston callipers, and 360mm discs at the rear with single-piston floating callipers. All rotors are ventilated, while the front ones are also perforated to help keep them cool under hard driving conditions.
To ensure that the E53 stands out compared to its 'regular' E-Class siblings, the sedan sports an AMG-specific illuminated grille, a redesigned AMG-specific front bumper with a larger air intake, and 'Turbo Hybrid' badges on the front fenders. Forged 21-inch wheels in a cross-spoke design are standard as well.
More goodies can be found inside, too, and these include illuminated AMG door sill panels, AMG sports seats and an AMG steering wheel, brushed stainless steel sport pedals with rubber studs, and a 12.3-inch driver instrument display with AMG menus. Prices currently start from $540,888.
