The new E-Class Convertible will replace the CLK Convertible, and compete with market rivals such as the BMW 3-Series Convertible as well as the Audi A5 Convertible. Mercedes-Benz has yet to release official details, but the E-Class Convertible will go on sale across Europe in January.
Based on the E-Class Coupe, the Convertible will get an electronic fabric roof instead of a folding hardtop, while other design changes from the coupe include the redesigned rear wings and boot lid. A unique feature on the E-Class Convertible is a retractable wind spoiler on top of the front windscreen called the Aircap, which works with the rear deflector to direct wind over the cabin.
Otherwise, the E-Class Convertible is the same mechanically as the E-Class Coupe, and there will be seven engines offered at launch, three diesels and four petrols. The diesel versions are the E220, E250 and E350 CDI that produces 170bhp, 204bhp and 231bhp respectively, while the petrol versions are the E200, E250, E350 and E500, which produces 184bhp, 204bhp, 292bhp and 387bhp respectively.
