Three engines will be available initially for the new SLK. The entry-level model is the SLK200 BlueEfficiency, which has a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 184bhp. Matched to a seven-speed 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission, the SLK200 is able to go from 0-100km/h in 7 seconds, and reach a top speed of 237km/h.
The next model in the SLK's line-up is the SLK250 BlueEfficiency, which is powered by the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder unit as the SLK200, but which has been uprated to produce 204bhp. This allows the SLK250 to go from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds, and top out at 243km/h.
The top-of-the-range model is the SLK350 BlueEfficiency, which has a newly-developed 3.5-litre V6 that produces 306bhp. This enables the roadster to sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, on to its electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
Among the numerous optional equipments available for the new SLK include sports suspension with harder springs and dampers and the Dynamic Handling Package with continuous adjustable damping, a refined steering system and torque vectoring brakes.
Aside from the Magic Sky Control, other technological features on the new SLK include the AirScarf system which blows hot air onto the driver on cold days, taken from the previous generation SLK, and the AirGuide wind deflecting system, which help control air flow and noise in the cabin area when the top is down. Safety features such as PreSafe and PreSafe Brake are also included with the SLK.
Mercedes-Benz will also offer a special "Edition 1" package at launch, which includes the Magic Sky Control, AirScarf, ambient lighting, the Dynamic Handling Package, an AMG body-kit, and two-tone Designo nappa leather interior with contrasting topstitching, among other features.
