Mercedes-Benz has moved to redesign the car’s interior, with better quality materials. The dashboard is inspired by the S-Class, and features a wide swatch of wood trim. There's also a wider centre console, aluminium accents, an updated COMAND system and an optional panoramic sunroof.
Three different engines will be offered for the M-Class at launch. The base model, the ML250 Bluetec, features a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. The middle-of-the-range ML350 Bluetec meanwhile, has a 3.0-litre V6 diesel unit with 254bhp and 619Nm of torque, and is said to be able to allow the M-Class to go from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 224km/h.
The sole petrol variant available at launch will be the ML350 BlueEfficiency, which has a 3.5-litre V6 engine that produces 302bhp and 370Nm of torque. This model is able to hit a top speed of 235km/h. All models come with Mercedes-Benz’s 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.
Mercedes-Benz has also fitted the M-Class with a selective damping suspension, while customers can also order an Airmatic self-levelling air suspension and an Active Curve System with dynamic roll stabilization. The new M-Class also comes with technological features such as Night View Assist Plus (with pedestrian recognition), Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Active Park Assist and Distronic Plus, which are all available as specifiable options.
The new M-Class features a prominent front grille, sculpted sides, wraparound taillights and 17- to 21-inch alloy wheels, with the largest rims getting the AMG badge, and an evolutionary design that is unmistakably M-Class. The SUV will be officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
