Mercedes-Benz releases new details about the CLS63 AMG

The new CLS63 AMG features a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, which replaces the 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V8 from the old CLS63 AMG, which churned out 510bhp and 630Nm of torque. The new 5.5-litre bi-turbo unit is able to put out 550bhp and 800Nm of torque with the AMG Performance package, or 521bhp and 700Nm in its standard form. As a result, the CLS63 AMG is able to rocket from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, or 4.3 seconds with the AMG Performance package, with top speed electronically-limited to 250km/h.

The engine is mated to Mercedes-Benz's AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sport transmission, and Mercedes-Benz says that the new CLS63 AMG is able to return a fuel consumption figure of 9.9 litres per 100km, which is 32 percent better than the outgoing engine. This is achieved thanks to a number of features such as a stop/start system, engine technology such as piezo injectors and an aluminium crankshaft, as well as the use of aluminium panels in the body.

The CLS63 AMG features three modes, 'S' (Sport), 'S+' (Sport plus) and 'M' (Manual), as well as AMG Ride Control suspension which also has 3 modes, Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. Other features include high-performance LED headlights and AMG light-alloy wheels in a new triple-spoke design.

The AMG Performance package adds a ceramic high-performance composite braking system, carbon fibre/black piano lacquer trims elements, door sills with illuminated AMG logo, carbon-fibre spoiler lip for the boot and red brake callipers, a separate set of 19-inch light alloys in a double 5-spoke design and a top speed limit raised up to 300 km/h.
